A notable feature of the data obtained in this study was the minimal variance evident in many of the explicit beliefs measures. One of the drawbacks in using university student samples is that their attitudes towards other social groups are often egalitarian in nature. If not, then they tend to conform to the requisites of political correctness, and express attitudes accordingly. In this sense, future research into this aspect of gender stereotyping needs to include people from a wider population.
Future research in this area also needs to consider the effects of the order in which materials are presented. In this study, features of the WrdTask may have alerted participants to the gender-related nature of the experiment. As such responses to the subsequently presented SentComp may have been affected.
